Zerg

Builds for Zerg players.

These are not proper strategies per-say, but rather different combinations of the soldiers available that use their unique abilities in the best possible way. No strategy will win without a powerful build.

Warnings

Do not build base defenses to wall off your entrance! Small units can slip right past them, and zerglings make better early defenders. The only base defenses you should are a few spore crawlers to counter air units in the mid-late game.

The Opening

I have developed a very strong opening for the Zerg. First, build drones until you run out of supply space, then save for an overlord. Once the Overlord is completed, do not go back to making drones. You will have about 200 minerals stored, so turn one of drones into a spawning pool first. While the pool grows, continue making drones until your supply is 13/18. Once you reach that point, let your larvae return. When the spawning pool is finished, you will have just respawned your third larvae, and you will have about 300 minerals. Spend half of the minerals on a queen from the hatchery, and the other half will make three zergling eggs. This will give you a good economy of 13 drones on minerals, a six-pool of zerglings, and a queen as soon as possible. What you do from then depends on your preferred attacks. I you do this right, it will be done by the 3 minute mark.
(I have seen someone get Zerglings out earlier than this, but he neglected his economy by doing so.)

The Deathball.

This strategy is one of the most common, used by almost everyone at one point or another. It is a large group composed of lots of zerglings, roaches, hydralisks, some banelings, and a few ultralisks. The idea of the Deathball is to make a single army that can counter anything that attacks it. It has no size limit. The more troops you have, the better.
